How we innovate
Alan Bartlett and Sons has the largest and most modern farming and packing operation in the UK.We’re certainly proud of our farm and factory, but we’re always thinking ‘how can we do things better?’
For example, our focus on enhancing the flow of product through our factory encouraged us to install pre-wash and even-flow hoppers, which have helped to reduce breakage, improve product appearance and even extend shelf life in store. Plus we designed and developed our own carrot washers because ‘the best’ could still be improved upon.
So while industry firsts are not our goal, they do tend to go with the territory.
First and best
Similarly, when it comes to farming, we have a proven ability to design and develop bespoke harvesting machinery and other equipment that sets new standards for the industry. For example, we designed and built a unique precision nutrient applicator, which has improved leaf health while also reducing nitrogen use by 28%. And we developed a precision phosphate placement applicator to improve the establishment and uniformity of our parsnip crop, which means we can now harvest the same yield from fewer acres.
Many such innovations have environmental benefits too, and you can see on our green initiatives page.
